Model Icon – Joanna Lewandowska

We are finishing off 2011 with a beautiful bombshell direct from Poland.  Her name is Joanna Lewandowska and she is a full figured model on her way to the top!  She has worked with a number of A-List photographers including celebrity plus size model, Velvet d’Amour.  We are extremely happy feature her this month and wish her all the best in her career…enjoy!

Hello, My name is Joanna Lewandowska and I come from Poland. I am 23 years old and I have a six-year-old son named Adrian. Nowadays I live and work in Germany. I have got many interests and hobbies such as studing Arabian culture, fashion design, make up and travelling. I’ve got an artistic soul but if somebody would have told me five years ago that I would be a model, I wouldn’t have probably believed that. But I am here now and never happier, this is my story.

So… about three years ago I met a photographer. It was a total coincidence. I had always believed that photo-shoots are only for very tall and rather skinny models. To my surprise he insisted on photographing me. He was the first person who believed in me and who convinced me that I was photogenic. This is how it all began. The photos turned out brilliantly. I was amazed and it motivated me to do something about it and realize my dreams. I tried to build up my portfolio, taking more and more photos. I worked with many photographers in Poland. Every time I tried to play a different role. I also discovered my acting abilities. At that time people weren’t so enthusiastic about plus size models so I was a bit concerned to put my photos officially up on the internet but now I know that was a good decision. People started leaving pleasant comments; they helped me to believe that I was a real and beautiful woman.

I have never been slim and I tried to lose my weight to be accepted by peers but I always ended up frustrated. It took a long time until I fully accepted my full figure but I definitely like me now. I believe that every person is unique in their own way and I think the world would be boring if we all looked the same.

The commercial side of my work in Poland has been mostly connected with advertising under garment collections but I was also featured in a prominent magazine presenting bridal fashion. There are ups and downs in this job and there are times when I am less motivated but, when something positive happens I regain my self confidence. Some time ago I was invited by my angel and idol -Velvet d’Amour to take part in a photo-shoot in Paris which was absolutely amazing…simply put, it was a truly wonderful time!

My future plans? Oh I want to be a model as long s possible. But I have got another dream. I want to design fashion for full figured women. Hopefully all my dreams will come true. Since I believe in me I know that nothing is impossible!
