We are kicking off Summer by featuring a true success story when it comes to plus size modeling, but this is not just a model story since we are featuring the very talented Tracie Stern, who is also a respected writer, actress, model, and host of her own radio show segment called “Tracie in the Middle.” She has a portfolio only reserved for models with years of high-end experience and a voracious drive for success. We are very honored to have Tracie as our Model Icon for June 2012.
Tracie Stern is a true success story and considers herself very lucky to have made a fabulous career out of modeling. As a veteran of the plus fashion industry her work has taken her to several continents including Africa, Australia, Europe and throughout North America. Her client list is extensive and includes: Dillards, Macy’s, Sears, JC Penny, Fashion Bug, Cato, Just My Size, Hanes, Vanity Fair Lingerie as well as several foreign clients; Reitmans (Canada) Quella Germany, Quella France, Ulla Popken both US and German and Claudia Magazine Poland to name a few. Since runway was her first job as a model, that love and passion has carried over to runways around the world, which include walking in the 2002 Sydney Fashion Week in Australia sponsored by Cosmopolitan Magazine and L’Oreal Paris.
Over the past several years, her career has started to branch out into the television market with repeat appearances on Investigation Discovery’s FBI Files: Criminal Pursuit. Tracie is also a freelance Emcee for Macy’s and hosts fashion shows throughout the Midwest, which have included several TV appearances as a Macy’s Spokesperson. Tracie has always used her writing as a way to express herself and in October 2011 Tracie was offered a position with PLUS Model Magazine as their Model Development Director. She has just recently resigned the position to pursue more opportunities in the TV and film world which lead her to put more energy into her modeling career as a whole. You can still find her articles giving advice to aspiring talent in back issues of PMM.
Tracie’s knowledge and experience isn’t limited to just the plus size industry, she is a regular contributing writer for Essere Magazine published out of Washington DC where she shares her joys and challenges of being in this business. Most recently Tracie has added radio personality to her extensive resume of accomplishments. Every Wednesday night on Prime-time radio with JRod, Tracie can be found hosting her “Tracie in the Middle” segment covering everything from modeling to motherhood and all subjects in between, nothing is off limits. You can call into the show between 8:30pm and 9pm est. to ask Tracie any questions you have live on air!
Tracie believes it’s important to experience life, but more important to share those experiences with others. She does so in several ways but the most prominent is as a volleyball coach for kids aged 7-9. Through the sport she has played for 25 years, Tracie understands the influence she has on her team of both boys and girls, and loves seeing their eyes when their hard works pays off. This is why when a local establishment in Virginia Beach, VA approached Tracie about creating a summer camp for youth ages 7-19, she couldn’t pass it up.
